IAHC Urges Federal Action on Delayed Section 8 Payments in Indianapolis
On August 1, 2025, the Indiana Affordable Housing Council (IAHC) sent a letter to U.S. Senator Jim Banks, urging his immediate support in addressing a critical issue affecting affordable housing providers across Indianapolis: significant delays in Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) payments from the Indianapolis Housing Agency (IHA).
These payment delays are not just an administrative inconvenience—they are threatening the financial stability of housing providers and the security of low-income Hoosiers who depend on these vouchers for safe and stable housing. Some IAHC members are owed over $2 million, with no clear timeline for resolution.
In the letter, IAHC calls on Senator Banks to:
-
Engage with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to investigate IHA’s operational challenges;
-
Urge HUD to release all backlogged payments immediately; and
-
Support long-term reforms to ensure IHA can reliably administer the voucher program moving forward.
IAHC remains committed to partnering with federal and local leaders to ensure every Hoosier has access to affordable housing. We will continue advocating for timely and reliable program administration on behalf of our members and the communities they serve.
