The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is now accepting award nominations for the following awards, to be presented at the 2026 Indiana Housing Conference.
Excellence in Affordable Housing Awards:
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is requesting nominations for the most outstanding properties in four categories. In order to be eligible, a property must be placed into service between July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026.
These awards celebrate the best in Indiana affordable housing development in the following categories:
RURAL HOUSING: This development is located within the corporate limits of a City or Town with a population less than 14,999 or the development is located in an unincorporated area of a county that is located beyond 2 miles of the city or town’s jurisdiction.
URBAN HOUSING: This development is located within a metropolitan area with a population greater than 15,000.
SENIOR HOUSING: This development specifically designed for use by elderly tenants.
SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING: This development specifically designed for use by special needs populations: persons with physical or developmental disabilities, persons with mental impairments, single parent households, victims of domestic violence, abused children, persons with chemical addictions and homeless persons.

Outstanding Resident Volunteer Award: The Indiana Affordable Housing Council (IAHC) and Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) developed the Outstanding Resident Volunteer Award to recognize an individual who is a consumer of an IHCDA program not an employee. The individual volunteers for the betterment of the community. This can be done through mentoring/tutoring, participating in charitable functions and/or fundraisers, creating items for nonprofit groups or to donate directly to others, community clean-up activities, activities to bring happiness to others. Service must be completed within the previous 12 months.

IWAHN WAHNderful Woman of the Year Award
Women have and will continue to play a key role in affordable housing. This includes impact in crucial areas of affordable housing; an industry that relies on long-term advocacy, complex financing, and community trust.
This year marks the inaugural presentation of the WAHNderful Woman of the Year Award. This award recognizes an outstanding woman in Indiana who has demonstrated leadership, longevity, and meaningful impact in the affordable housing industry.
We are proud to establish this annual event to celebrate the leadership and vision within our community. In doing so, we join the ranks of our national organization and fellow chapters across the country who have long recognized the vital contributions of outstanding women in the affordable housing industry. By launching this award today, we commit to highlighting those who drive innovation, equity, and excellence in our field for years to come.
A few key criteria identified for the nomination and selection process include:
- Industry Experience and Longevity
- Considers years of service, depth of experience, and commitment to the affordable housing industry.
- Professional Contributions and Leadership
- Considers leadership roles, innovation, initiatives led, and influence within the industry
- Community Impact
- Considers the nominee’s measurable and meaningful impact on residents, communities, or housing outcomes.
- Nomination Statement

Evaluates the strength, clarity, and persuasiveness of the nomination, including examples of achievements and character.

Winners are announced during the conference lunch on Wednesday, September 2. The Outstanding Resident Volunteer Award winner will be notified ahead of time to ensure they are available to accept the award.
