IAHC Legislative Initiative

Indiana faces a housing shortage, underproducing homes by an estimated 40,589 properties. Expanding the Indiana Affordable Workforce Housing Tax Credit can help close the gap by attracting private investment and making more affordable and workforce housing developments possible

The Impact of a $60 Million Housing Credit Investment

  • 2,758 new affordable homes

  • 2,200+ construction jobs

  • $161 million in economic activity

  • $42 million in new tax revenue

Estimates from IAHC program materials.

Why Expand the Tax Credit?

Established in 2019, Indiana’s Affordable Workforce Housing Tax Credit works alongside federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and tax-exempt bonds to help finance housing development. By attracting private investment and reducing project financing gaps, the program helps make more housing possible.

IAHC supports increasing the program’s aggregate tax credit authority from $30 million to $60 million over the five-year credit period. This expansion would help bring more housing online, support Indiana workers, and strengthen local economies.
