Organization Overview

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is one of the nation's largest community development nonprofits, bringing national expertise, resources, and investment to local communities. Founded by the Ford Foundation in 1980, LISC connects community organizations with the capital, technical assistance, and partnerships needed to create thriving, affordable, and resilient neighborhoods. Through grants, loans, equity investments, and capacity-building support, LISC helps local leaders advance solutions that expand opportunity, strengthen economic mobility, and improve quality of life for residents.
Since 1992, LISC Indianapolis has partnered with residents, neighborhood organizations, government, philanthropy, and the private sector to support community-driven development across Indianapolis. Guided by a holistic, place-based approach, LISC Indianapolis invests in the interconnected elements that help neighborhoods thrive, including affordable housing, commercial corridor revitalization, small business development, workforce opportunities, and resident leadership.
Since its inception, LISC Indianapolis has directly invested more than $377 million in local neighborhoods, leveraging an additional $1.2 billion in public and private investment. These investments have helped create or preserve 8,277 affordable housing units and redevelop more than 10 million square feet of commercial space, advancing LISC's mission of building communities of opportunity for all.
